The Olympus E-M1 is finally here! Just announced by Olympus and available for pre-order, this camera seems to be the long-sought m43 bridge camera to finally make full use of phase-detect AF on 4/3 lenses and the first Olympus m43 to bear a "Pro" designation.
Olympus Corporation announced today the successor to the classic OM line of 35mm film cameras: The E-M5, first in a new line of OM-D serious micro four-thirds mirrorless interchangeble lens cameras (that's a mouthful). We'll call them m4/3 and MILC.
What is it? "The Nikon V1 is the "high end" model to the Nikon 1 lineup. The words "high end" are in quotes mostly because "high" is relative to the J1, not necessarily to mirrorless cameras in general."
Overall the view is positive but the product is still very "version 1.0" (Thom's statement) and not without significant handling flaws and a price that does not match the product.
Dpreview.com reviews the Olympus e-pm1 and gives it a Silver Award!
"With the E-PM1, Olympus offers sleek design and fast AF performance in a package priced to appeal to users looking to trade in their compact-camera for higher image quality without adding too much bulk."
